Which actor played the forensic scientist Anderson in Sherlock?

Jonathan Aris played forensic scientist Philip Anderson in BBC's Sherlock.

Anderson is a member of the Metropolitan Police's Forensic Services and works at crime scenes investigated by Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade. He has a tense relationship with Sherlock Holmes, who repeatedly mocks Anderson's reasoning and scientific conclusions. Anderson, in turn, dislikes Sherlock's arrogance and unconventional methods.

The character appears from the opening episode, "A Study in Pink," where Sherlock exposes Anderson's affair with Sergeant Sally Donovan. Anderson also helps interpret the word "Rache," carved by a dying victim; he correctly recognises it as the German word for "revenge." Later, he becomes one of the police officers persuaded that Sherlock may be connected to Moriarty's crimes.

Jonathan Aris is sometimes confused with actors who played other police or investigative characters in the series. Rupert Graves played DI Greg Lestrade, while Andrew Scott played Jim Moriarty.
