Which actor played Robert Chase in the television series House, M.D.?

The story behind the answer

Jesse Spencer played Robert Chase in the television series House, M.D.

Chase is one of the original fellows selected to work in Gregory House’s diagnostic medicine department at Princeton-Plainsboro. He brings a surgical background to the team and often occupies a different professional and personal position from Foreman and Cameron.

Spencer, an Australian actor, played Chase across the series and remained connected to the character as the team’s structure changed. Chase’s story includes professional advancement, difficult ethical choices, and evolving relationships with colleagues. His role is therefore larger than that of a one-case guest doctor.

The actor is sometimes confused with other original team members. Omar Epps played Eric Foreman, Jennifer Morrison played Allison Cameron, and Hugh Laurie played House. Spencer later became widely known for playing firefighter Matthew Casey in Chicago Fire, a separate television role.
