Which actor played Dr. Lawrence Jacoby in the original Twin Peaks series?

Russ Tamblyn played Dr. Lawrence Jacoby in the original Twin Peaks series.

Dr. Jacoby is the eccentric psychiatrist who treated Laura Palmer and several other residents. His connection to Laura makes him an important figure in the investigation, even though his unusual personality and behavior often make his testimony difficult to interpret.

Tamblyn brought a flamboyant, theatrical quality to the role. He was already an established performer, known especially for playing Riff in the 1961 film adaptation of West Side Story and for extensive work in film and television.

Dr. Jacoby should not be confused with the FBI investigators who arrive in Twin Peaks. He is a local psychiatrist, while Dale Cooper and Albert Rosenfield belong to the federal investigation. Tamblyn also returned as Jacoby in Twin Peaks: The Return.
