Which actor played CIA officer Roger Ferris in Ridley Scott's Body of Lies?

The story behind the answer

Leonardo DiCaprio played CIA officer Roger Ferris in Ridley Scott's Body of Lies.

Released in 2008, the espionage thriller adapts David Ignatius's novel Body of Lies. Ferris is a field officer working in the CIA's Near East Division who tracks the terrorist leader Al-Saleem across Iraq and Jordan. Unlike his distant superior Ed Hoffman, played by Russell Crowe, Ferris depends heavily on local relationships, language skills and human intelligence.

The answer can be confused with the film's other prominent actors. Russell Crowe plays Hoffman, Ferris's manipulative CIA boss, while Mark Strong portrays Hani Salaam, the head of Jordan's General Intelligence Directorate. Simon McBurney plays Garland, a CIA computer specialist.

DiCaprio was cast in 2007 and pursued the role partly because he viewed the project as a throwback to 1970s political thrillers. For the part, he dyed his hair brown and wore brown contact lenses. The film also reunited Scott and Crowe after their collaboration on Gladiator and A Good Year.
