Which ABBA song, released in 1980, became a recurring New Year’s Eve favorite?

“Happy New Year” is the ABBA song released in 1980 that became a recurring New Year’s Eve favorite. The Swedish group recorded it for the album Super Trouper, released that same year.

The song combines a celebratory title with reflective lyrics about uncertainty, hope, and the future. That contrast helped it become more than a simple party song, especially in countries where it receives seasonal radio and streaming play.

ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus wrote the song. It was released as a single in some markets and has had renewed chart visibility during holiday seasons. It is sometimes confused with ABBA’s more upbeat hits, but its title and New Year theme distinguish it clearly.
