Which 2026 semiquincentennial quarter was the first anniversary quarter released into circulation?

The story behind the answer

The Mayflower Compact quarter was the first 2026 semiquincentennial anniversary quarter released into circulation.

The United States Mint announced its release for January 5, 2026. Production began in December 2025, when the Mint struck 78.2 million Mayflower Compact quarters along with one million Revolutionary War quarters. The Mayflower issue therefore preceded the other anniversary quarter designs in the public release schedule.

The coin commemorates the Mayflower Compact, the 1620 agreement associated with the English settlers who established Plymouth Colony. That event predates the Declaration of Independence by more than 150 years, so it represents an earlier chapter in the political and settlement history often connected with the American founding story.

The Mayflower Compact quarter can be confused with the Revolutionary War quarter because both belong to the same 2026 five-quarter series. The Revolutionary War design was also produced in the initial manufacturing period, but the Mayflower Compact issue was the one officially announced as entering circulation first.
