Which 2022 film won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature in 2023?
Answer
Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio
*Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio* won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.
The stop-motion film reimagines Carlo Collodi’s *The Adventures of Pinocchio* against the backdrop of fascist-era Italy. Del Toro co-directed it with Mark Gustafson, combining handcrafted animation with a darker story about grief, obedience, love, and mortality.
The award honored a film released in 2022, while the ceremony took place on March 12, 2023. That release-year and ceremony-year split is a common source of confusion in Oscar questions.
The nominees included *Marcel the Shell with Shoes On*, *Puss in Boots: The Last Wish*, *The Sea Beast*, and *Turning Red*. Del Toro’s film became the first stop-motion feature to win the category since *The Fantastic Mr. Fox* was nominated in 2009.
