Which 2014 American film directed by Miguel Arteta is titled Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day?

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is the 2014 American film directed by Miguel Arteta.

The family comedy is based on Judith Viorst’s 1972 children’s book of the same name. It follows Alexander Cooper as a series of mishaps makes him feel that everyone else has better luck. Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner play Alexander’s parents, while Ed Oxenbould plays Alexander.

The connection to Pandora’s Box is cultural rather than plot-based: the film’s chain of escalating troubles resembles the familiar modern use of the Pandora image for consequences that keep spreading. It is not a direct adaptation of the Greek myth, and no mythological box drives the story. Miguel Arteta directed the film for Walt Disney Pictures, which released it in October 2014.
