Which 2005 car was the first production automobile with a certified top speed above 400 km/h?

The story behind the answer

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was the first production automobile with a certified top speed above 400 km/h.

Bugatti’s Veyron achieved 407.1 km/h in 2005, making it the first series-production road car to pass the 400 km/h mark. Its engineering challenge involved more than engine power: tires, cooling, aerodynamics, stability, and braking all had to work at extreme speed.

The car used a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its launch output was commonly quoted at 1,001 metric horsepower, though later versions produced more.

The McLaren F1 had previously held the production-car speed record, but its measured top speed was below 400 km/h in standard form. Later cars surpassed the Veyron, yet the 2005 milestone remains its defining achievement.
