Star Wars: Episode I Racer
Answer
Star Wars: Episode I Racer
The 1999 racing game based on the podrace from The Phantom Menace is Star Wars: Episode I: Racer.
Developed and published by LucasArts, the game adapts the high-speed podracing sequence from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Players can race as Anakin Skywalker and other competitors across courses inspired by the film, including the dangerous Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine, while also tackling new tracks on other planets.
Its tournament mode lets racers earn money from race results and spend it on engine parts, repairs, and upgrades. Players must manage speed, collisions, overheating, and mechanical damage, making the game more involved than a simple time trial. The Nintendo 64 and Dreamcast versions also included split-screen multiplayer.
The title is often confused with Star Wars Racer Revenge, a 2002 PlayStation 2 sequel, or Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing, a separate 2001 kart-style game. Episode I: Racer originally launched in 1999 and later received high-definition releases for modern consoles in 2020.
