The track became famous after a shortened version appeared in a Levi’s television advertisement in the United Kingdom. Public interest pushed the single to number one immediately after its release, making it one of the fastest-selling debut singles in British chart history at the time. It later fell sharply in the charts, a pattern often associated with heavily advertised releases.
Babylon Zoo released the album The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes later in 1996. Subsequent singles performed less strongly, leaving “Spaceman” as the project’s defining chart success.
