Stealers Wheel made their one-hit wonder mark with the 1973 song “Stuck in the Middle with You.”

The Scottish band recorded the song for their debut album, Stealers Wheel. Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan wrote it, while the production was handled by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The recording uses a bright, Beatles-influenced pop-rock sound, with a famous country-tinged fiddle part.

The single reached No. 6 on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Its later appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs introduced the song to another generation, although the film’s violent scene gave the cheerful track an unexpectedly unsettling association.

Rafferty later had a major solo success with “Baker Street,” but that was not a Stealers Wheel recording. “Stuck in the Middle with You” remains the group’s defining hit.
