Which 1970s market collapse followed the oil crisis and ended the Nifty Fifty boom?

The story behind the answer

The 1970s market collapse that followed the oil crisis and ended the Nifty Fifty boom was the 1973–1974 stock market crash. The decline affected major markets, especially the United States and the United Kingdom.

During the preceding years, investors had favored a group of large, well-known growth companies called the Nifty Fifty. Many buyers treated these companies as dependable investments regardless of price, pushing valuations to very high levels. Inflation, recession fears, and rising energy costs then damaged confidence.

The 1973 oil crisis sharply increased economic pressure after Arab oil producers imposed an embargo connected to the Yom Kippur War. From January 1973 to December 1974, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost about 45%. The crash is distinct from the 1970s oil shock itself: the energy crisis contributed to the market decline but was not its name.
