Which 1970s market collapse followed the 1973 oil crisis and ended the postwar bull market?

The story behind the answer

The 1973–1974 stock market crash followed the 1973 oil crisis and ended the postwar bull market.

The downturn developed amid high inflation, slowing economic growth and political uncertainty. The Yom Kippur War led Arab members of OPEC to impose an oil embargo on countries supporting Israel, and oil prices rose dramatically. The Watergate scandal and President Richard Nixon's resignation added to investor anxiety in the United States.

From its January 1973 peak to its October 1974 low, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost roughly 45 percent. Britain and other markets also suffered major declines. The crash is often discussed with the 1970s' stagflation, but the oil shock was one contributor rather than the only cause. It was also separate from the 1970 recession and from the later 1979 energy crisis.
