Which 1969 event first put humans on the Moon?
Answer
Apollo 11
Answer
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 was the 1969 mission that first put humans on the Moon.
NASA launched Apollo 11 from Kennedy Space Center on July 16, 1969. Commander Neil Armstrong and lunar module pilot Buzz Aldrin landed the lunar module Eagle in the Sea of Tranquility on July 20, while command module pilot Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit.
Armstrong became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, followed shortly by Aldrin. The astronauts collected lunar samples, deployed scientific instruments, and spent about 21 hours and 36 minutes on the surface before returning to Earth.
Apollo 11 is sometimes confused with Apollo 8, which was the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon, or Apollo 10, which rehearsed the landing without touching down. Apollo 12 achieved the second crewed lunar landing later in 1969.
