Which 1968 film did Harrison's Wonderwall Music soundtrack?

The story behind the answer

George Harrison’s Wonderwall Music was the soundtrack to the 1968 film Wonderwall. Directed by Joe Massot, the British psychedelic film starred Jack MacGowran and Jane Birkin and explored a surreal world seen through a literal wall. Harrison composed music to accompany the film’s unusual visual sequences.

The soundtrack was recorded between November 1967 and February 1968 in London and Bombay. Harrison combined Western experimental rock with Indian classical music, using instruments such as sitar, sarod, shehnai, santoor and tabla. John Barham helped with orchestration, and Indian musicians including Aashish Khan and Shivkumar Sharma contributed to the recordings.

Wonderwall Music was more than a film score: it became Harrison’s first solo studio album and the first album released by a Beatle on Apple Records. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on 17 May 1968, while the soundtrack album was issued later that year. Its largely instrumental music helped introduce Indian sounds and avant-garde textures to a wider rock audience.
