Which 1967 Barbie doll introduced the Twist ’n Turn body and a new long-haired look?

The story behind the answer

Twist ’n Turn Barbie introduced the Twist ’n Turn body and a new long-haired look in 1967.

The doll marked an important change in Barbie’s design. Her waist could twist, and her head and waist were articulated to create more posing possibilities than earlier Barbie bodies. She also had long, straight hair with a flip at the ends, replacing the dominant short hairstyles of the early 1960s.

Twist ’n Turn Barbie arrived during a period when Mattel was updating Barbie’s appearance to match contemporary youth fashion. Her outfit and hair gave her a more modern, youthful image, while the new body construction made fashion play more dynamic.

The name is sometimes shortened to TNT Barbie by collectors. It should not be confused with later dolls that merely had twistable waists: “Twist ’n Turn Barbie” specifically refers to the 1967 model and its associated body design.
