The 1966 Sinatra album that shares its title with a hit single is That’s Life.
That’s Life was released by Reprise on November 18, 1966, during Sinatra’s mid-1960s commercial resurgence. Its title track became one of his signature late-period recordings, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Easy Listening chart. The album itself also became a Top Ten success.
Sinatra learned about the song after hearing O. C. Smith’s version and recorded it in July 1966. Ernie Freeman arranged and conducted the recording, while Jimmy Bowen produced it. Freeman’s brass-heavy approach helped give the album a contemporary sound that reflected the pop market of the period.
The wording can cause a small chronology mix-up: Sinatra at the Sands was released between Strangers in the Night and That’s Life. Still, That’s Life is the unique answer because it is both a 1966 album and the title of Sinatra’s hit single.
