Which 1963 Chevrolet introduced the first production version of the Corvette Sting Ray design?
Answer
Chevrolet Corvette C2
Answer
Chevrolet Corvette C2
The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette C2 introduced the first production version of the Corvette Sting Ray design.
The second-generation Corvette debuted for the 1963 model year with a completely new body and chassis. Chevrolet marketed the coupe as the Corvette Sting Ray, while the convertible carried the Sting Ray name without the fixed roof. The design featured hidden headlamps, sculpted bodywork, and an independent rear suspension.
The 1963 coupe also had a split rear window, a famous styling feature used only during that model year. The division was removed for 1964 after concerns about rear visibility, although the rest of the C2 design continued.
The earlier C1 Corvette established Chevrolet’s sports-car nameplate in 1953. The C2 was a new generation rather than merely a facelift, and its engineering and styling helped make the Corvette a serious performance competitor.
