Answer
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
The 1962 film featuring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as rival sisters is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Directed and produced by Robert Aldrich, it is a psychological horror thriller about two aging former performers trapped together in a decaying Hollywood mansion.
Davis plays Jane Hudson, a former child star whose career has faded, while Crawford plays Blanche Hudson, her successful but paralyzed older sister. Their history of professional jealousy and personal resentment drives the film’s escalating cruelty. The screenplay by Lukas Heller was adapted from Henry Farrell’s 1960 novel.
The movie became famous partly because of the reported tension between its two stars, although stories about their feud were amplified by publicity and later accounts. It also helped revive both actresses’ careers and became an important early example of the “psycho-biddy” horror subgenre, centered on older women in psychologically disturbing situations.
The film received five Academy Award nominations and won for black-and-white costume design. It is often confused with Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, another 1960s psychological thriller involving Bette Davis, but Crawford was replaced by Olivia de Havilland in that production.
