Which 1953 expedition first successfully climbed Mount Everest's summit?

The story behind the answer

The 1953 British Mount Everest expedition, led by John Hunt, first successfully climbed Mount Everest's summit.

On May 29, 1953, New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay reached the summit at 11:30 a.m. They used the South Col route in Nepal and Tibet's Himalayan region, after earlier teams had come close but failed to complete the ascent.

The expedition used a large support team, fixed ropes, high-altitude camps, oxygen equipment, and carefully planned acclimatization. Hillary and Norgay were the final summit pair, while other climbers prepared the route and carried supplies.

News of the success reached Britain shortly before the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, creating enormous public excitement. George Mallory's 1924 attempt had ended in his disappearance, and whether he reached the summit remains unresolved. The 1953 ascent is therefore generally recognized as the first confirmed successful climb.
