Which 1950 C.S. Lewis novel introduces the land of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe introduces Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s 1950 novel.

The story follows Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy Pevensie, who enter a magical world through a wardrobe. There they encounter the lion Aslan, the White Witch, and a land trapped in an unnatural winter. The novel became the first Narnia book published, even though later reading orders place The Magician’s Nephew before it chronologically.

Lewis drew on myth, fairy tale, Christian symbolism, and wartime experiences involving evacuated children. The book’s publication in 1950 began the series known as The Chronicles of Narnia.

Readers sometimes confuse publication order with the internal chronology of Narnia. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the series’ publishing debut, while The Magician’s Nephew tells the fictional world’s origin.
