Which 1944 Disney film introduced Panchito Pistoles, Donald Duck’s Mexican friend?

The story behind the answer

The 1944 Disney film The Three Caballeros introduced Panchito Pistoles, Donald Duck’s Mexican friend.

Panchito joins Donald and José Carioca in a musical tour through parts of Latin America. He is an energetic Mexican rooster, dressed in a charro-inspired outfit and known for his pistols, sombrero, and exuberant personality. The film combines animation with live-action sequences and songs.

The Three Caballeros followed Saludos Amigos, another Disney film made as part of the studio’s Good Neighbor cultural initiative during the 1940s. José Carioca had already appeared in Saludos Amigos, so Panchito was the new member completing the trio in the later film.

A common mix-up is to identify Saludos Amigos as Panchito’s debut. That film introduced José Carioca, while The Three Caballeros brought Panchito into Donald’s circle. The three characters later became closely associated with Disney’s Latin American-themed stories.
