Which 1929 Wall Street crash day saw the Dow Jones fall nearly 12% on 29 October?
Answer
Black Tuesday
Answer
Black Tuesday
The 1929 Wall Street crash day on 29 October was called Black Tuesday.
Black Tuesday followed Black Thursday, 24 October, and Black Monday, 28 October. On 29 October, investors traded roughly 16 million shares on the New York Stock Exchange, a record at the time, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 12%.
The crash did not by itself create the entire Great Depression. Falling investment, bank failures, reduced consumer spending, protectionist trade policies, and other economic weaknesses deepened the downturn. The Dow continued falling after October 1929 and reached its low in 1932.
Black Tuesday is sometimes confused with Black Monday in 1929. Black Monday refers to 28 October, when the Dow lost nearly 13%; Black Tuesday was the following session and became the best-known date associated with the crash.
