Which 1929 trading day is most closely associated with the Wall Street Crash's most famous panic?

The story behind the answer

Black Tuesday is the 1929 trading day most closely associated with the Wall Street Crash's most famous panic.

Black Tuesday occurred on October 29, 1929, when roughly 16 million shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 12 percent that day. The selling followed major losses on Black Thursday, October 24, and Black Monday, October 28.

The crash did not by itself create the entire Great Depression, but it severely damaged confidence and revealed the vulnerability of an economy built around credit, speculation, and industrial overproduction. Bank failures, unemployment, and falling production continued for years afterward.

The labels can cause confusion because several 1929 sessions received color-based names. Black Thursday was the first major panic day, while Black Tuesday marked the huge final wave of selling. The Dow did not regain its 1929 peak until 1954.
