The Ohio House is the 1876 Centennial Exposition state house still standing at its original Fairmount Park location.
Twenty-six of the 37 U.S. states built state buildings along States Drive at the Philadelphia exposition. These structures gave states dedicated spaces to display products, history, resources, and achievements during the centennial celebration.
Only three of the state houses were still extant in the historical account of the exposition: the Ohio House remained in Fairmount Park, the Maryland House was moved to Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, and the Missouri House was moved to Spring Lake, New Jersey. Ohio House is therefore the one associated with its original exposition location.
The state houses were separate from the exposition’s major halls, such as Memorial Hall and the Main Exhibition Building. Many temporary fair structures disappeared after 1876, making surviving buildings especially useful reminders of the event’s scale and of how individual states presented themselves to visitors.
