Which 1648 battle in Bohemia was the final action of the Thirty Years' War?

The Battle of Prague was the 1648 battle in Bohemia that became the final action of the Thirty Years' War. Fighting began on 25 July, when Swedish forces under Hans Christoff von Königsmarck seized Prague's western districts, including Prague Castle and the Lesser Town.

The Swedish attackers failed to capture the Old Town and New Town on the eastern bank of the Vltava. Local defenders, soldiers, militia, and university students resisted from the city's fortifications, especially around Charles Bridge. Swedish forces continued their attacks and blockade for months, even after the Peace of Westphalia had been signed.

The conflict ended when news of the treaty reached Prague in November. The Swedes abandoned their attempt to conquer the rest of the city, although they retained a garrison on the western side for a time. The battle is therefore remembered as the war's last major clash and final military action.

Prague's symbolism is striking: the war had begun in Bohemia in 1618 with the Defenestration of Prague, and it ended there three decades later. Swedish troops also carried away artworks from Rudolf II's famous collection in Prague Castle.
