Where were many of Shakespeare's plays produced?

Many of Shakespeare’s plays were produced at the Globe Theatre in London.

The original Globe was built in 1599 on the south bank of the River Thames by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. It became one of the most important theatres of Elizabethan London and was closely associated with Shakespeare as playwright, actor, and part-owner.

The Globe hosted early performances of several major works, including Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, Macbeth, and The Tempest. Its open-air design placed the stage in a central yard, with standing spectators known as groundlings nearest the action and covered galleries around them.

The Globe was not the only theatre where Shakespeare’s plays appeared. His works were also performed at venues such as the Theatre, the Curtain, and the indoor Blackfriars Theatre. The original Globe burned during a 1613 performance of Henry VIII and was rebuilt before closing in 1642. A modern reconstruction, Shakespeare’s Globe, opened near the original site in 1997.
