Where is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, Angel Falls?

The story behind the answer

Angel Falls, the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall, is in Venezuela.

The waterfall drops 979 metres from Auyán-tepui, a flat-topped mountain in Venezuela's Canaima National Park. Its longest uninterrupted plunge is about 807 metres. Water from the Churún River spills over the cliff and becomes mist before reaching the lower cascades.

The falls are named after American aviator Jimmy Angel, who flew over them in 1933. Angel later landed his aircraft on the summit of Auyán-tepui in 1937, but the plane had to remain there for decades after the landing became difficult. Local Pemón people call the waterfall Kerepakupai Merú.

Angel Falls is remote and is usually reached by river and trail or by aircraft. Its flow varies with rainfall, and during drier periods the water can disperse into spray before completing the full drop. Iguazu Falls is wider, but it is not as high.
