Where is Salvador Dalí buried?

The story behind the answer

Salvador Dalí is buried in the crypt beneath the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres.

Dalí died on 23 January 1989 and was buried in the museum he had helped create in his birthplace. His tomb lies beneath the stage area of the former theatre, now part of the museum complex. The location reflects his wish for the institution to function as a highly personal artistic environment rather than as a conventional gallery.

Dalí’s body was later exhumed in 2017 because of a paternity lawsuit, and forensic samples were taken. DNA testing found that the claimant was not his daughter, after which Dalí was reinterred at the museum.

The burial site is distinct from Portlligat, where Dalí and Gala maintained their home and studio, and from Púbol Castle, which Dalí gave to Gala. These three Catalan locations are closely linked to different periods of his life.
