Where does the Council of Elrond take place?

The Council of Elrond takes place in Rivendell.

Rivendell is an Elven refuge in a hidden valley east of the Misty Mountains, ruled by Elrond. In The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo reaches Rivendell after being wounded by a Nazgûl at Weathertop. Elrond heals him, and the house becomes the meeting place where representatives of the Free Peoples discuss the One Ring and Sauron's growing threat.

The council includes figures such as Elrond, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, and representatives of the Hobbits. Aragorn reveals that his sword is the broken Narsil, linking him to Isildur's royal line. After lengthy discussion, the council decides that the Ring cannot safely be hidden or wielded; it must be destroyed in Mount Doom.

Rivendell is sometimes confused with Lothlórien, where Galadriel later shelters the Fellowship and gives them gifts. Minas Tirith is Gondor's great city, while the Shire is the Hobbits' homeland.
