Where did the First Continental Congress meet in 1774, before the American Revolution?

The story behind the answer

The First Continental Congress met at Carpenters’ Hall in Philadelphia in 1774.

Delegates from twelve of the thirteen British colonies gathered there from September 5 to October 26, 1774. Georgia did not attend the First Continental Congress, although it later sent representatives to the Second Continental Congress.

The meeting was called in response to the Intolerable Acts, punitive measures passed by the British Parliament after the Boston Tea Party. The delegates coordinated a boycott of British goods and petitioned King George III while still stopping short of declaring independence.

Carpenters’ Hall is often confused with the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. The Second Continental Congress met at the State House beginning in 1775, while the earlier congress used Carpenters’ Hall.
