The first Assassin’s Creed video game was released worldwide in 2007.
Ubisoft Montreal developed the game, while Ubisoft published it for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2007. A Windows version followed in April 2008. The game introduced the series’ central conflict between the Assassins and Templars through the experiences of Desmond Miles and Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad.
The original game is primarily set in the Holy Land during the Third Crusade, including cities such as Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. Players used the Animus to experience Altaïr’s memories, combining stealth, parkour, investigation, and combat.
A common mix-up is confusing the first game’s release with the franchise’s early development history. Ubisoft first presented the project as a Prince of Persia spin-off before it became a new intellectual property. Assassin’s Creed II arrived in 2009 and expanded the historical settings and gameplay systems.
