Twin Peaks: The Return was first broadcast in 2017.
The limited series continued the story of Twin Peaks more than 25 years after the original program ended. It premiered on Showtime on May 21, 2017, with the opening installments presented together before later parts were released during the summer.
David Lynch directed all 18 parts, and Mark Frost co-wrote the series with Lynch. Many original performers returned, including Kyle MacLachlan as Dale Cooper, while the revival also introduced new characters and locations. Its structure was more experimental than a conventional network television season.
The title is often casually called “season three,” but its official presentation was Twin Peaks: The Return. It is also different from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, the 1992 prequel film, which portrays events leading up to Laura Palmer’s death.
