What year was Michelangelo born?

The story behind the answer

Michelangelo was born in 1475, specifically on March 6, in Caprese in the Republic of Florence.

His full name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Although born in Caprese, he was raised largely in Florence, where the artistic culture of the Medici court helped shape his early development.

Michelangelo became one of the leading artists of the High Renaissance, working as a sculptor, painter, architect, and poet. His major works include the Pietà, David, the Sistine Chapel ceiling, and The Last Judgment.

The birth year is sometimes confused with dates associated with his major works. He carved David between 1501 and 1504, painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling from 1508 to 1512, and lived until 1564, dying in Rome at age 88.
