What year was Inside Out released?

The story behind the answer

Inside Out was released in 2015.

Pixar’s animated coming-of-age film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18, 2015, before reaching U.S. theaters on June 19. Pete Docter directed the movie, which follows Riley Andersen as her family moves from Minnesota to San Francisco and her emotions struggle to manage the upheaval.

The film was produced by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Its central characters—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—turn abstract feelings into a colorful adventure inside Riley’s mind. The voice cast includes Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Bill Hader, and Mindy Kaling.

A common mix-up is confusing the original film with Inside Out 2, which was released in 2024. The first movie earned widespread critical acclaim, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and became one of 2015’s major animated releases.
