Disney’s animated Aladdin was released in theaters in 1992.
The film premiered on November 11, 1992, and became one of Walt Disney Feature Animation’s defining successes of the early 1990s. It was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, with voices including Scott Weinger as Aladdin and Robin Williams as the Genie.
Aladdin adapted elements of the folk tale from One Thousand and One Nights, but its screenplay, characters, songs, and comic tone were substantially reshaped for Disney. The film became the highest-grossing movie of 1992 and earned more than $504 million worldwide during its original release.
A common mix-up is the year 1994, which belongs to The Return of Jafar, the first direct-to-video sequel. The live-action Aladdin arrived much later, in 2019, so neither date is correct for the original animated theatrical film.
