What year was Antoni Gaudí born?
Answer
1852
Answer
1852
Antoni Gaudí was born in 1852, becoming one of the defining architects of Catalan Modernisme.
His full name was Antoni Gaudí i Cornet, and he was born on 25 June. Sources traditionally place his birth in Reus, although Riudoms, his father’s village nearby, is also sometimes identified. Gaudí himself contributed to that uncertainty, while most official documents list Reus.
Gaudí studied architecture in Barcelona and developed a highly individual style shaped by nature, religion and craftsmanship. His best-known works include the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.
A common mix-up is confusing his birth year with his death year: Gaudí died in 1926 after being struck by a tram. His career therefore belongs mainly to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when Barcelona’s Modernisme movement was flourishing.
