The first live-action Scooby-Doo film was released in 2002.
Titled simply Scooby-Doo, the Warner Bros. feature premiered theatrically on June 14, 2002. Raja Gosnell directed the film, which adapted Hanna-Barbera’s animated mystery team into a live-action comedy adventure with computer-generated Scooby-Doo.
The main human cast included Freddie Prinze Jr. as Fred, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy, and Linda Cardellini as Velma. The story reunites Mystery, Inc. after a two-year separation to investigate strange events at a resort on Spooky Island.
A common mix-up is confusing the original movie with its sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, which arrived in 2004. The first film was commercially successful despite generally negative critical reviews, earning about $275 million worldwide. It also marked the beginning of a live-action theatrical series, although a planned third movie was later abandoned.
