What year did Gaudí graduate as an architect?
Answer
1878
Answer
1878
Antoni Gaudí graduated as an architect in 1878.
He completed his architectural studies at the Barcelona Provincial School of Architecture in 1878. His education also included work at the Llotja School, and he supported himself by working as a draughtsman for architects and builders while studying.
Gaudí’s academic record was uneven, but he showed exceptional ability in drawing and design. When the school director, Elies Rogent, issued his title, he reportedly remarked that it was unclear whether the institution had produced a genius or a fool; time would decide. Gaudí soon began receiving commissions in Barcelona.
The year 1878 marks the start of his professional career, not the completion of his best-known masterpieces. His early projects included streetlamps for Barcelona’s Plaça Reial and the design of the Mataró Workers’ Cooperative. His major works, including Park Güell, Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Família, came later and developed his increasingly distinctive architectural language.
