What year did Brooklyn Nine-Nine first premiere?

The story behind the answer

Brooklyn Nine-Nine first premiered in 2013.

The series debuted on Fox in the United States on September 17, 2013, with its pilot episode. Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the comedy followed detectives working in a fictional NYPD precinct in Brooklyn, led by the newly appointed Captain Raymond Holt.

The show originally received a 13-episode order from Fox, but the network expanded its first season to 22 episodes after the series gained momentum. Its early success was helped by the contrast between Andy Samberg's energetic Jake Peralta and Andre Braugher's restrained Captain Holt.

Viewers sometimes confuse the premiere year with the year the show moved networks. Fox canceled Brooklyn Nine-Nine after its fifth season in 2018, but NBC quickly picked it up. The NBC era began in 2019, not 2013, and the eighth and final season aired in 2021.
