The United States will celebrate its tricentennial in 2076, after the America250 semiquincentennial.
A tricentennial marks a 300th anniversary. Since the Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776, adding 300 years places the next three-century milestone in 2076. The year will come 50 years after the 2026 semiquincentennial and 100 years after the 1976 bicentennial.
The sequence of names can be confusing. A centennial marks 100 years, a sesquicentennial marks 150, a bicentennial marks 200, a semiquincentennial marks 250, and a tricentennial marks 300. The United States has already held major anniversary observances in 1876, 1926, and 1976. America250 is therefore one point in a recurring national tradition of looking backward at the founding era while using a milestone to discuss the country’s future.
