What was Usain Bolt's time in the 2012 Olympic 100m final?

Usain Bolt ran 9.63 seconds in the 2012 Olympic men’s 100-metre final. He won the race at London’s Olympic Stadium on 5 August 2012, finishing ahead of fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake in 9.75 seconds and American Justin Gatlin in 9.79 seconds.

The performance set a new Olympic record, lowering Bolt’s own mark of 9.69 seconds from the 2008 Beijing Games. Although the official result is commonly written as 9.63, timing records captured a more precise value of approximately 9.629 seconds, which was rounded to the nearest hundredth.

Bolt’s victory made him only the second man, after Carl Lewis, to win consecutive Olympic 100-metre titles. He had entered London after losing to Blake at the Jamaican Olympic trials, but he delivered in the final when it mattered most.

The 9.63-second run was not a world record. Bolt’s world record remained 9.58 seconds, set at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.
