What was Tommy Lee's first solo project after leaving Motley Crue?

The story behind the answer

Tommy Lee’s first solo project after leaving Mötley Crüe was Methods of Mayhem. The rap-metal band was formed in 1999 after Lee temporarily left his longtime group, allowing him to explore hip-hop, electronic music and heavier alternative sounds beyond Mötley Crüe’s glam-metal style.

Methods of Mayhem released its self-titled debut album in 2000. The record featured collaborations with artists including Kid Rock, Fred Durst, Snoop Dogg and George Clinton, reflecting Lee’s interest in combining metal with rap and modern studio production. The project also toured on Ozzfest in 2000.

A common mix-up is Tommy Lee’s 2002 album Never a Dull Moment. That was his first solo album released under his own name, whereas Methods of Mayhem was his first major post-Crüe solo venture. Lee later returned to Mötley Crüe in 2004, but continued developing separate music, including the solo albums Tommyland: The Ride and Andro.
