What was the worldwide release date of Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released worldwide on January 28, 2022.

Developed by Game Freak for Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is an action role-playing game set in the Hisui region. Hisui is an earlier version of the Sinnoh region seen in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, and the game functions as a historical prequel to those titles.

Its gameplay emphasizes exploration, catching Pokémon directly in the environment, and building the region’s first Pokédex. The player is sent into the past and works with the Galaxy Expedition Team, making the game structurally different from the traditional gym-based progression of many main-series entries.

The game was announced during the Pokémon 25th Anniversary celebrations in February 2021. It is sometimes confused with the later Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which was released in 2025. Legends: Arceus remains the title associated with Hisui and its ancient Sinnoh setting.
