Answer
Operation August Storm
Operation August Storm was the Western nickname for the Soviet 1945 campaign in Japanese-occupied Manchuria.
The offensive began just after midnight on August 9, 1945, when Soviet forces attacked Japanese puppet states in Manchuria and Inner Mongolia. Soviet troops advanced on three broad fronts, using large armored and mechanized formations against Japan's Kwantung Army. The campaign continued until September 2, the day of Japan's formal surrender.
The Soviet Union had declared war on Japan on August 8, fulfilling a commitment made at the Yalta Conference to enter the Pacific war three months after Germany's defeat. The offensive began between the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and created a major new crisis for Japanese leaders.
“Operation August Storm” is a common Western label, but the campaign is also called the Soviet invasion of Manchuria or the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation. It helped destroy Japan's strongest remaining land army and contributed significantly to the decision to surrender.
