Hugh Laurie directed the season-six House, M.D. episode “Lockdown.”
“Lockdown” is the seventeenth episode of the sixth season. A hospital lockdown separates the main characters and forces them into smaller, more personal storylines while a patient’s medical case continues in the background. The unusual structure gives the episode a more intimate tone than a typical diagnostic mystery.
The episode aired in 2010 and was directed by Laurie, who also played Gregory House. Acting and directing in the same production is demanding because the performer must manage scenes in which he is both behind and in front of the camera. Laurie had previously directed episodes of the series as well.
“Lockdown” is easy to confuse with “Help Me,” the season-six finale, or “Broken,” the two-part season premiere. Those episodes are also strongly associated with major changes in House’s life, but neither is the season-six episode titled “Lockdown.”
