What was the title of Stevie Wonder’s 1962 debut studio album?

The story behind the answer

Stevie Wonder’s 1962 debut studio album was titled The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie.

The album was released on Motown’s Tamla label when Wonder was still known professionally as Little Stevie Wonder. It presents him primarily as an instrumentalist, with a strong emphasis on jazz and organ rather than the pop-soul sound that later defined much of his career.

Its release came soon after Motown signed Wonder in 1961. The record demonstrates why the label viewed him as more than a novelty performer: he was already capable of leading an instrumental session at an unusually young age.

The album is often confused with Tribute to Uncle Ray, also released in 1962. Tribute to Uncle Ray consists largely of songs associated with Ray Charles, while The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie is the instrumental jazz-oriented debut.
