The two-part sixth-season premiere of House M.D. was titled “Broken.”
The episode follows Gregory House during treatment at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital after the events of the fifth-season finale. Rather than focusing primarily on a conventional hospital mystery, “Broken” examines House’s addiction, psychiatric care, relationships, and attempt to change his behavior.
“Broken” aired as a two-hour television event on September 21, 2009. It was written by Russel Friend, Garrett Lerner, David Foster, and Peter Blake, and directed by Katie Jacobs. The unusual structure allowed the series to spend extended time outside its normal diagnostic setting.
The title is sometimes confused with “Help Me,” the two-part fifth-season finale, or “Both Sides Now,” the seventh-season finale. Those episodes are also major House storylines, but “Broken” specifically begins season six.
