The sixth-season premiere of House M.D. was titled “Broken.”
“Broken” is a two-part episode that follows Gregory House as he receives psychiatric treatment at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. The story begins after the events of the fifth-season finale, in which House recognizes that his hallucinations and addiction have seriously damaged his life and work.
The episode focuses on House’s treatment, his interactions with other patients, and his difficult attempt to accept responsibility. It differs from the usual diagnostic format because much of the story takes place outside Princeton-Plainsboro and emphasizes character development over a conventional hospital mystery.
“Broken” aired in September 2009 and was broadcast as a two-hour premiere event. It is sometimes confused with “Help Me,” the two-part fifth-season finale, but “Help Me” concludes season five while “Broken” begins season six.
